MixedMedia Monday

Monday mornings are usually quiet. That is the time to get creative.
Most of the time my hands are getting the itch to do something. I don't know, it is kind of constant nagging of I have to do something.
Let me share with you some ongoing projects.

First a project for the coming christmas:

It is a paper bag. But, it is a mixed media project as well. It look s like this on one side:

Did I mention it is if got christmas?

The back I did some butterflies.

Then I am working on a photo. It is almost finished.

The last one is a greeting card with heart on it.

The heart itself is a mixed media work with paint , fabric crochet, embroidery and bead. I will show it closer:
It is not finished yet. You can see the wet paint.

Love What You Do: Mixed media wall hanging

Do you all love what you do ?I can tell you, I love what I do most of the time.
I am trying to make it a mixed media wall hanging.

It is not finished yet. Needs more of that finishing touches.  It took a lot of time to be the above stage. Oh, I loved every minute of working on it.

first of all I started with paint.

It was a blast. I had to wait for it to dry.

Then I started doing running stitches. Watching TV and doing running stitch was just very pleasing. I even forget to eat in time. Want to see the stitches a bit closely?

The text I printed out, and cut it out .
Remember the other wall hanging I made for my daughter?

I used the same words. But printed and cut out in different order to make this one.

I didn't stitched it. But, just used mod podge to paste it on to the fabric.
It needs a loop to go on the wall. Now, are you getting inspirations to make a mixed media art?

Art journal page: A reminder

I haven't done any journal page for some time. But,gesso was applied on few pages, and the background was painted. Today, I was looking on Artistcellar's blog I saw this face on a journal. I got inspired by the dreamingly pretty face.
I was thinking on a quote" Love what you do & do what you love" for some time.
Now, combined both and I got :
Can you see how the quote is made?

Blue is the only colour for today

What will happen if you are allowed to use only one color on a given day or for a project?

Mixed media art is fun with the "What if" questions.
What will happen only blue for today?

But, I cheated with different shades of blue.
These papers were used to wipe out excess colours.
Feeling blue is feeling down. What if we come out of the blues? Kind of awakened? The angel's touch?
The fiber paste is used to make that image in white.
Those are not finished yet. I waiting for the fiber paste to dry before adding anything.

Queen : Mixed media art

There was this bandana. It is made of cotton.
The paisley designs was pretty and cotton is good to absorb color.
I bought it to experiment with water soluble markers.  You can see some colors there already, right?

Looking on it, suddenly I could see a face.  So the face got cut and and glued to already started background paper. The rest is whimsical.
With her red hair and gold crown, she is rocking, don't you think?
She is going to be framed and will be on the wall soon.

The paper needed to be trimmed to fit  the existing frame.

Who am I : a Mixed Media exploration

The piece started without a plan to make anything particular.
I just applied gesso to mixed media paper. The thinking was just to create a background for future work. I was just letting my mind wander around to think about the frustration of life , work and money.
At the workplace, sometimes I feel I am not included in the circle. I feel like left alone and kept out of the loop.
The colors and brush was comforting.
After applying colours and and wiping them down with paper towel to make the layers visible, I had this feeling to look for shapes on the paper. Then , I felt there is a female body. A bit of tracing around the shape made the body, the eye and a face.

The coloured paper towels are made by wiping down the brush. Used bits of that to make the dress.

Cotton yarn was glued on top of it to give more texture and to create the feeling of the dress.  Below is another close-up.

Now, let us see the full view. Are you thinking of seeing a regular female face with this body?

I am still not sure to keep her the way it is or to change the face to more human like.
My daughter thinks it is great. She think the eye is just perfect and the texture is amazing. My husband thinks it is weird. He thinks the face is a goat, and my daughter thinks it is a giraffe.
What you think of it?
At present, I just left it on top a bookshelf in the living room.

Haapy as a butterfly: Mixed Media Art

Butterfly is the symbol of growth, vulnerability, celebration and also soul. it also represent symbol of Love in some cultures.

I think, butterflies are happily accepting the changes comes in life and they are easy going.

When growing up in southern India, we had several butterflies always in the yard, flying from flower to flower. The colours on the wings were amazing.
Here is my butterfly, flying over the fence, looking for happy flowers.

Process of making

The paper was painted with gesso first. Then added fiber paste all over. Made the fence like markings with a fork.
Then, layers of painting and stenciling added. The butterfly wings are filled with tiny beads.
I felt a finished feeling when this much was done. Now, my inner critic is telling me there is not enough flowers, not enough plants,...
Any suggestion from you?

Story of Sue: mixed media on Cardboard

Sue loved books. Sue loved poetry. I caught her staring on the tree branch sometimes. She said, the leaves were doing dancing for her. She finds so many things interesting, which normal people don't even care.

Sometimes the girls in the class called her "the writer". She doesn't seem to care. But, looking back, I think, she was trying so hard to fit in., trying hard to look ordinary. Still, she was sticking out, somehow. I am not sure what was it...

Let me present Sue:

Do you have a Sue in your life?

Mixed media Tag : Index card project

I love the index card idea. So, to keep things moving and to get some immediate gratification, I turned to the index cards again.

A bit of stamping a bit of stitching, bit of glueing..
I have only two stamp pads: one red and one green.
A butterfly foam stamp from dollar store becomes my favourite .

I used a cut up portion from an egg carton to stamp the green squarish design.
Want to see that?
I used some buttonhole stitches with yellow embroidery floss around the card.
Since the card is very flimsy, I decided to glue it on a piece of cardboard.
Me being me, a plain cardboard is not great. This is visible outside right?
So, I draw the trees with my black sharpie marker.

How you like my trees?
Then punched a hole, added a piece of pink ribbon That is enough right?
Will you be happy if you get this one along with a gift?

Emotion: a mixedimedia WIP

I started it yesterday. The image is not fully out from my mind yet.
I have to work more on this one.
I have more plans for this one.
I will write about the materials used in another post. I am really working with recycled materials and on a low budget. Wish to get nice paints and few better brushes,,,, I dream about having mixed media paper too.

A 3D wall Art DIY with a recycled box

I always look things which I can make myself. My talents are limited. I can crochet, I can make my own jewelry, and I can play with paints ( but, I cannot make a great painting or anything like that...)

The bog Once Upon a dream aka Craft a doodle doo has ton of ideas, which I can try with my limited budget.
On Nash's blog, I stumbled on this awesome 3D wall art idea.

She is very creative and crafty. I decided to copy her idea and to work on my project.
I was given an Elizabeth Arden gift box for Mother's Day. The box itself is very pretty. So, I kept the box to do something with it. But, didn't have an idea...
I do have a lot of crochet flowers from my Etsy days. Decided to use few of them.
The markers and the patterned paper..few beads... some glue... (My Glue Gun needs more Glue sticks and I have to wait to purchase anything..Ya, too bad.. Oh, cmon.. I have some tacky glue which can stick the beads...So, I used that  liquid glue for this project)
The project on my working table aka the foldable Ikea dining table.

I wrote the words using sharpies. (No, I am not paid by the Sharpie company). I used a red color pencil on top of the mesh onion bag to get the texture. The craft scissors gave the wavy cuts.  The words are separated by sticker bindi's I bought from India.

The plants are hand drawn using markers. Some sticky 3d acrylic embellishments are prettying my plants.

The butterfly is crocheted using a pattern from Crochet Today Mag, I believe. (FYI, they are not paying to put their name too).

Crochet flowers are my made with my ideas in the past.I glued the patterned paper with all my embellishments on the inside of the box.

I am loving it. Thanks to Nash and Craft a Doodle Doo.
I put on the dressing table near to my jewelry.

I am still looking on my finished project and enjoying it.
Do you like my Box art?

Photography incorporated in mixed media journal

This is week 19 at Journal 52. Prompt is Photograpy.
I decided to use a picture postcard from my stash.
After all, I am trying to use up whatever I have in this journal.

Few years back one summer we took a bus trip, to see some places. I bought few picture postcards as mementos. They were just lying around without much purpose. This project give me an opportunity to add it and see what happens.

I used some blue tissue paper from my clutter box. There are few stamps and some acrylic paints too. So used all of them. The page was prepared using watered down white glue. I might re-visit this page. I might use some stencils later. But, for today, this is fine.
