Creating a cozy handmade hat is always rewarding, but dealing with an uneven, bumpy seam running down the back can be frustrating. Today, I am thrilled to share my favourite solution: a beautiful, textured spiral beanie worked entirely in continuous rounds without a single seam!

This pattern is highly beginner-friendly, working up quickly into a thick, boutique-quality accessory.

What makes this beanie design so special is how the stunning spiral texture is built. By strategically placing Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC) stitches, you push the texture outward, forming smooth, sweeping ridges that spin seamlessly around the crown.

Project Materials & Pattern Details 

Before starting your first continuous round, gather the following supplies:

• Yarn: Small amount of Category 4 medium-weight acrylic yarn (the sample is worked in a gorgeous lilac/lavender shade).
• Crochet Hook: 4.5 mm or 5.0 mm hook (adjust based on your personal tension).
• Notions: A tapestry needle for weaving in your yarn tails, sharp scissors, and a couple of stitch markers. (Note: Because we are working in a seamless spiral, stitch markers are essential to keep track of your rounds!)
• Sizing: This pattern is highly adaptable. You can easily adjust the height or slouchiness by adding or subtracting rounds before transitioning to the brim.

  • FPDC (Front Post Double Crochet): Yarn over, insert your hook from front to back to front around the post of the stitch from the row below, yarn over, pull up a loop, and finish your double crochet normally. This pushes the stitch forward to create your spiral ridge.

  • Step-by-Step Overview of the Beanie
    1. The Crown & Spiral Setup
    We begin by working our base double crochets into a center circle. The spiral pattern kicks off immediately in the next round by alternating regular double crochets with our special FPDC stitches. This establishes the clean anchors for your spiral paths.
    2. Growing the Textured Ridges
    To expand the hat smoothly, we scale up our increases between the post stitches. Because we are skipping the usual slip stitch join at the end of every row, the ridges flow in a continuous, unbroken line. Make sure to move your stitch marker up to the first stitch of every round so you never lose your place!
  • 3. Shaping the Body & Neat Flat Brim

    Once the crown section reaches the proper width, we drop the increases and work straight rounds to build up the height. The front post double crochets will naturally tilt into a beautiful sweeping spiral. To finish the hat flawlessly, we transition into working 3 clean layers of half double crochets to form a perfectly balanced, comfortable flat brim.
