Crochet a Fun 3-Layer Ruffled Boho Scrunchie!

Hey everyone, it’s Bindu!

Welcome back to the blog.

Today, we are working on something super fluffy that perfectly fits right into our love for quick, satisfying small projects. If you want a unique accessory to brighten up your outfits, you have to try my 3-Layer Ruffled Boho Scrunchie!

I know I usually focus a lot on headbands and beanies over on the Crochetsmash channel, but this scrunchie design was just too exciting not to share. I made a trip out to the Michaels at Kennedy Commons recently and picked up a few different shades of Red Heart Super Saver yarn. Combining three fun colors—like the purple, green, and yellow I used in the tutorial—makes this such a playful piece. You could even use red, green, and white for an adorable handmade holiday gift!

Please don't let the "three layers" part intimidate you! It sounds complex, but in simple terms, all we are doing is crocheting around a basic hair elastic. The secret to getting those gorgeous ruffles is just putting multiple double crochet stitches into the exact same spot. This naturally forces the yarn to wave and flare out beautifully.

In the video, I also share a neat little construction trick. I show you exactly when to start your third layer so the scrunchie doesn't get too stiff or hard to hold onto while you are still working on it.

It is the perfect, relaxing project to whip up in an afternoon, and you can easily customize it with whatever acrylic yarn you already have in your stash.

Grab your 5 mm hook, get comfortable, and crochet along with the full step-by-step video below!

What three-color combination are you going to use? Let me know in the comments,

and happy crocheting!
