Eyes, surgery and other things

Life has a way of moving along steadily until a sudden shift brings everything into focus. For me, that shift happened when I realized my vision wasn't quite right. A visit to the optometrist confirmed the cause: cataracts in both eyes.

The left eye was significantly worse, requiring surgery much sooner than the right. Navigating the healthcare system in Ontario can be daunting, with wait times for hospital surgeries often stretching up to a year. While OHIP covers the procedure itself, patients still pay for the lenses. To expedite the process, I chose to have the surgery at a private clinic. Since I am perfectly comfortable wearing glasses, I opted for the standard lens.

The experience was surprisingly seamless. Within just one month of my consultation, the surgery was complete. To my relief, the procedure was easy and entirely painless, and the recovery process has been very manageable.

Now, I am in the healing phase. I must wait one month before returning to my optometrist for a fresh eye exam and a new prescription. Currently, I am still using my old glasses, which feels a bit off since the power is no longer correct for my treated eye, but it is a temporary hurdle. As for my right eye, the plan is to monitor the cataract and likely proceed with surgery next year once it has matured.

Regaining clear vision in even one eye has been a wonderful reminder not to take our health for granted. Clearer days are definitely ahead!

Oh Rogers, why?

Yesterday morning I sat on the couch with breakfast porridge. When I say sitting on the couch, you should think of a habit. Breakfast and TV are actually a habit.

What is unusual about a habit? Nothing, except the TV, was not showing anything. So, naturally tried to connect internet to see if that works. Nope. The Internet is also not working. A quick phone call to Rogers, the service provider, and after clicking on various choices, hubby managed to get a message stating "Rogers is down in your area and ask Anna the virtual assistant for more"

Anna the virtual assistant was more pain to manage. So gave up on her.

Hubby is working from home. So there was no way he can work. The whole day went by waiting for the net to be back. Nothing changed, till we were going to bed.

The internet connection was flaky for the last few days. Shouldn't they reimburse for all the trouble for customers?

I am seriously thinking about changing the service provider.

Have you had any trouble with Rogers recently?
